AUSTIN, Texas – Texas soccer standout Lexi Missimo has picked up another prestigious honor after being named by Goal.com to its list of the NXGN Top 20 World Wonderkids in women's football for the second straight year.
Rated No. 4 overall, Missimo represented the lone American and amateur player selected among the 20-player group.
Already honored by Top Drawer Soccer as one of its Top Young U.S. Players of 2021, the Southlake, Texas, native recently scored three goals in helping guide the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team to the CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship title and a berth in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica. For her efforts at the CONCACAF event in the Dominican Republic, Missimo was tabbed to the U-20 Women's Championship Best XI Team.
The 2021 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year, Missimo made a lasting impression during her first full collegiate campaign by scoring nine goals and dishing a league-high and Texas freshman record 14 assists for 32 total points (fourth in the Big 12). Along the way, the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Midwest Region selection totaled points in 12-of-22 matches and at least three points in five separate contests. Included was a program-record-tying performance during Texas' 7-0 rout of UTRGV (Sept. 12) as Missimo became the first Longhorns player to score four goals in a single match in 18 years. She also tied a program mark by dishing four assists during a 4-3 victory at Oklahoma back on Sept. 2 and registered match-winning goals to down both SIUE (Sept. 19) and Iowa State (Oct. 8).
