All six Longhorns competing in the tournament shoot par or better on the final round and three place in the top-15 individuals.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 11/13/15 Texas Women's Golf team scored a 10-under-par 278 on Tuesday to finish tied for third at The Bruzzy at the Waterchase Golf Club, the teams best finish on the 2021-22 season. The round of 278 was the third-best 18-hole score of any team in the tournament and paved the way for the Longhorns to register a 54-hole total of six-under-par 858 (294-286-278). Sophomore Bentley Cotton led the Longhorns with a fourth-place finish in the individual standings at seven-under-par 209 (75-68-66), the best finish of her collegiate career. Freshman Bohyun Park and Graduate Brigitte Thibault both finished tied for 14th at one-over-par 217.
The Longhorns final round of 10-under-par 278 ties their second-lowest 18-hole team score on the season and is tied for the 17th-best all-time 18-hole team score in UT history. The 10-under-par mark is the Longhorns best 18-hole team score relative to par of the 2021-22 season and also ranks tied for 13th all-time in the UT record book for 18-hole team scores relative to par. The 54-hole total of 858 is tied for the Longhorns lowest 54-hole score this season and is tied for 21st on the UT all-time list.
"This team has fight," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "Our best is right around the corner."
Cotton had a career day as she set her collegiate-best 18 hole score on Tuesday with a final round of six-under-par 66. The round of six-under-par is tied for sixth all-time for the Longhorns in terms of an 18-hole score relative to par. The score also marks her third round in the 60s for her collegiate career, as well as her second consecutive round in the 60s after she shot a four-under-par 68 during the second round. Cotton ties senior Sara Kouskova for the lowest round by a Longhorn this season. The sophomore is now tied for No. 8 all-time for UT's lowest individual 18-hole score and tied for 17th-best all-time for the lowest 54-hole total by a Longhorn.
"I'm very proud of Bentley," Murphy continued. "She started slow and fought her way back and showed what she's made of."
Beyond Cotton's performance, the remaining five Longhorns in the tourney all shot par or better during Tuesday's final round. Junior Sophie Guo bounced back after a tough second round to shoot a two-under-par 70 on the final day, giving her a total of seven rounds of par or better on the season. Bohyun Park and Brigitte Thibault both fired a one-under-par 71 on the third round, which was good enough to put them among the top-15 in the individual standings. The tied for 14th place finish from Thibault marks her best finish on the 2021-22 season. Ashleigh Park set her lowest round of the season as she was the final Longhorn to shoot a one-under-par 71 on the day. Ashleigh Park, who led the tournament with a total of 40 pars, also went 14 straight holes before recording her only bogey on the round at the par-3, seventh hole. Freshman Tiffany Cao, who was competing individually and playing in just her second collegiate tournament, shot an even-par 72 during the final round. That tied the lowest round of her collegiate career, matching the 72 she recorded during Monday's opening round.
Cotton led the field with a total of 17 birdies on the tournament, while Thibualt was close behind with 16 and Bohyun Park registered 14 birdies.
