Men's Track and Field closes historic season as NCAA Outdoor runner-up

Texas finishes as runner-up for the fourth time in program history.
EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 2 men's track and field team ended the 2022 Outdoor season as the National Runner-Up after scoring 38 team points.
The second-place finish was the Longhorns' best showing in 25 years at the outdoor meet, having finished second three other times in school history. Texas has now been the NCAA Outdoor runner-up four times in program history in 1987, 1988, 1997 and 2022.

After Tripp Piperi finished as the shot put champion on Wednesday, Leo Neugebauer's runner-up showing in the decathlon on Thursday and Stacy Brown Jr.'s sixth-place effort in the long jump on Wednesday, Texas entered championship Friday with 22 points.
Texas began Friday's action with a sixth-place finish in the 4x100 relay, when Daniel Garland, Willington Wright, Marcellus Moore and Micaiah Christian ran a time of 39.06. The performance ranks as the sixth-fastest time in Texas history and fourth-best time at the NCAA Championship.

Jonathan Jones added five points to the team total after a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash. His effort of 44.93 is now the seventh time he's ran a sub-45 second 400m, and he now holds the top-nine times in Texas history. It's also the second time in his career he's finished fourth outdoors and earned his sixth All-America honor.
Harris also added a fourth-place finish later in the 200m dash with his time of 20.45. It's the third time in his career he's finished in the top-five, and he is also now a six-time All American.
Texas' 4x400 relay of Brian Herron, Wright, Caleb Hulbin and Jones tallied the final five points for the Longhorns with a fourth-place finish at 3:01.69. Jones' posted a 43.24 on the anchor leg for Texas.
Friday's relay finishes were the first time since 1988 that both relays earned first-team All-America honors.
