The Details
Texas came out on the front foot to open the match as Missimo (53 seconds) and fifth-year senior defender Carlee Allen (2:02) managed the first two shots for either team.
Continuing to apply strong pressure up top, the Longhorns earned a corner in the sixth minute. Missimo delivered a perfectly-weighted ball to the top of the six-yard box. Leaping in from out of nowhere was EmJ Cox as the sophomore defender skied above everyone to head a seven-yard effort into the left side netting for a quick 1-0 advantage (6:01).
Lipscomb got on the board shot-wise at 11:24 and 16:26 as Faith Adams and Shelby Craft fired 25-plus yard efforts right into the waiting arms of Texas graduate goalkeeper Savannah Madden.
The Burnt Orange & White struck again off a set piece at 26:56 to grab a 2-0 lead. Missimo fed a ball in towards the back post that was headed by a Lipscomb defender. Brooks was waiting for it to drop at the left post and quickly headed a four-yard shot down and on frame that ended up in the middle of three players. The ball ricocheted around within the group on goal line, but Worden managed to get the last touch as her right knee deflected it in for her first collegiate score.
Back at the other end, Lipscomb had a great chance just go awry at 31:32 as Marcella Cash's 18-yard shot from the top of the box traveled inches over the cross bar before settling on the top netting.
After another high Bisons shot (35:27), UT senior forward Teni Akindoju nearly made it 3-0, but her header from the middle of the 18 at 36:21 ventured right to Lipscomb keeper CJ Graham.
In the 42nd minute, LU earned a dangerous free kick just outside the top of the 18. Adams stepped up and blasted a shot right off Texas' defensive wall. The ball ricocheted out to the right where a Bisons player took possession and fed a cross to the back post. Logan McFadden managed to leap high in the air and get her head on a seven-yard shot only to have it venture harmlessly left of frame.
Out of the halftime break, it didn't take long for Texas to grab another at 51:06. EmJ Cox started the action with a solid pass out of the back. Worden took possession just past midfield and lifted a feed ahead into the path of Shimkin. The Rockville Centre, N.Y., took one quick dribble to settle the ball before slotting an 18-yard effort past Graham and into the twine for a 3-0 lead.
Lipscomb's best offensive spell of the match came during the 58th and 59th minutes. Emily Patti nearly got the Bisons on the board at 57:46, but her shot from the right wing was saved off the goal line by leaping Texas junior defender Lauren Lapomarda.
Just 37 seconds later, Lipscomb's Emanuela Schurch rattled a shot from the left side off the left post before Texas could clear its lines.
Still holding firm to its clean sheet, Texas' offense quickly got back to work putting the match away. Missimo had a solid chance blocked at 61:42 as the Southlake, Texas, native took possession of a Lapomarda cross about 12 yards out in the middle but had her effort rattle off a defender before being cleared.
Off a free kick in the 68th minute, Missimo began another scoring play by driving a ball into a crowd at the top of the six. Much like Cox earlier in the match, Brooks leapt over everyone to head a seven-yard shot just inside the left post to make it 4-0.
During the 73rd minute, a pass up the right wing from fifth-year senior Mackenzie McFarland found Shimkin near the end line. The sophomore transfer quickly crossed the ball in towards the top of the six where Worden was waiting in space to complete her brace from seven yards out and finalize Texas' five-goal output.
Lipscomb had one final opportunity to get on the board at 82:30 but Kale'a Perry's shot traveled wide right.
