No. 2 Volleyball sweeps No. 7 Ohio State

The Longhorns opened the season with an emphatic top 10 win on the road.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – No.2 Texas Volleyball opened the season with an emphatic 3-0 win over No. 7 Ohio State, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22, on Friday in front of a raucous crowd of 3,711 at the Covelli Center.
The two teams will battle it out again on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT with the game broadcast on Big Ten Network.
Logan Eggleston led the Longhorns with 15 kills, while hitting .355 in the match and adding seven digs, four blocks and two service aces. Eggleston had a slow start the match with just three kills and a .000 hitting percentage in the first set. She went on to have six kills in each the second and third sets.
Madisen Skinner, playing in her first match as a Longhorn, finished with nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage. Molly Phillips had a big match with eight kills, while hitting .400. She took over the second set with seven kills on seven swings.
Asjia O'Neal stormed out of the gates with four kills in the first set and finished the match with seven kills and hitting .462.
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres dished out 37 assists and added six digs, three kills and one block.
Zoe Fleck finished with 11 digs, one assist and one service ace in her first Texas match. Along with Skinner and Fleck, Keonilei Akana, Bella Bergmark, Kayla Caffey, Jenna Ewert, Emma Halter and Devin Kahahawai all played in their first matches for the Longhorns.
Texas took the first set after the teams went back-and-forth for the opening points. The Longhorns jumped out to an 18-12 lead and were able to hold off the Buckeye's to take it 25-21. O'Neal had four kills on four swings as well as two blocks in the first set. Skinner had three kills and hit .600 in her first set as a Longhorn.
The Longhorns had to battle in the second set, trailing 8-1 early and then by as much as 12-4. Texas chipped away though and used a 12-2 run to knot the set up 14-14. Phillips had a huge impact on the Longhorns rallying to win the set 25-22, with seven kills on seven attempts.
The third and final set was close throughout but Texas held onto a narrow lead for most of it. Eggleston put the match away with six kills, including the final point of the match to secure the sweep.
