The Richardson, Texas, product scored a brace (two goals) and dished an assist in the 3-2 win over Florida
AUSTIN, Texas – Chalk up another individual honor for the ever-expanding resume of Texas soccer standout Trinity Byars as the sophomore forward was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week – Honorable Mention for Aug. 30.
For the Richardson, Texas, native, this marks her fourth career selection to the organization's national team of the week after previous inclusions on Sept. 21 & 28, 2021 (honorable mention) and Nov. 2, 2021 (full team).
In her first weekend back on the Forty Acres after spending time with the U.S. Women's Under-20 National Team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, Byars wasted no time getting off to a quick start in 2022. After playing 80 minutes in last Thursday's loss to No. 1 North Carolina, Byars exploded offensively in Sunday's 3-2 triumph over Florida by playing a direct role in all three Texas goals with a brace (two goals) and an assist. The multi-goal effort marked the fourth of her brief career in the Burnt Orange & White and raised Byars' impressive career totals to 14 goals and 11 assists (39 points) over her first 24 career contests.
Byars started off her contributions against Florida by scoring just 12 minutes into the win over the Gators. She received a pass from freshman forward Liz Worden near the penalty spot, pivoted quickly and blasted a shot off the inside of the right post and into the twine. At the 24:17 mark, Byars delivered the key final pass that directly led to fifth-year senior defender Emma Regan's 19-yard score. Later, with the match tied at 2-2 in the 80th minute, Byars worked hard to get herself in space to head home Worden's cross from five yards out at the left post to complete the 3-2 victory.
Texas now preps to head out on the road for the first time in the 2022 season with a trip to the Pacific Northwest to battle Oregon (Thurs., Sept. 1, 9 p.m. CT) and Gonzaga (Sun., Sept. 4, 3 p.m. CT).
