Cross Country sweeps Tornado Watch Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas men's and women's cross country program began the season sweeping the Tornado Watch Invitational for the second year in a row.

Sophomore Isaac Alonzo began the day winning the men's 5K with a time of 15:35.6. The Longhorns took six of the top-10 finishes to score a total of 19 team points for the win.
Fellow sophomore Abraham Avila-Martinez took second with his time of 15:38.6m while freshmen Emanuel Sgouros and Nathanael Berhane took fifth and sixth (15:51.3 and 15:51.4). Sophomore transfer Logan Patete added a ninth-place finish (16:08.9), while Sam Bass closed out the top-10 with his time of 16:38.0.
After taking the top-seven positions last season, the Longhorns defended its Tornado Watch Invitational title.
Beth Ramos claimed first-place at Old Settlers park, winning the women's 5K with her time of 18:00.8. Sophomore Eva Jess, who championed the event last season, was the runner-up with her time of 18:37.2.
Freshman Brighton Mooney made her burnt orange debut with a fourth-place finish at 19:01.3, while the outdoor track and field All-American Valery Tobias completed the race in 19:15.0 for a seventh-place finish.
The Longhorns rounded out the final three top-10 finishes with Alexa Rodriguez (19:19.6), Allyson Little (19:36.9) and Katarzyna Kwiatkowski (19:39.6).
Natasja Beijen, Elizabeth Pickett, Virigina Knight and Camille Napier made their collegiate debut with top-20 performances, while Amity Ebarb, Davicia Patterson and Rachel Helbling closed out the Longhorns competitors in the top-25.
Texas will return to competition in three weeks in a split weekend with the women traveling to Eugene, Ore., for the Dellinger Invite (Sept. 23) and the men heading just north to Stillwater, Okla., for the Cowboy Jamboree (Sept. 24).
