Lexi Missimo, Trinity Byars and Mia Justus cap dominating 2023 season with postseason honors
AUSTIN, Texas – For the third consecutive season, The University of Texas women's soccer program had multiple representations on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams as Lexi Missimo, Trinity Byars and Mia Justus were all selected to the All-Midwest Teams, the organization announced.
Missimo became the first Texas women's soccer student-athlete to earn first team all-region honors in three consecutive seasons since Kasey Moore was appointed to the first team in four consecutive seasons (2005-08). Byars, like Missimo, also picked up Justus is the first Longhorn goalkeeper to earn an all-region honor since Abby Smith was a third team selection following the 2015 season.
Missimo, a first team all-region selection, became the first women's soccer student-athlete in the Big 12 Conference's history to record a 20-goal, 20-assist season as the Southlake native finished her junior campaign with 26 goals, 20 assists and 72 assists, all of which set new program single-season records. She played 98.7 percent (2,131) of her team's possibly 2,160 minutes throughout 24 matches, while leading the Longhorns to their third postseason Big 12 Championship in program history.
Byars, the Big 12's Forward of the Year, was a first team all-region selection, too, after turning in a personal-best junior season as the Richardson, Texas native found the back of the net 18 times, while being credited with 14 assists for a 50-point season total. She also became the program's new leader in career hat tricks with four after entering the 2023 season having recorded two three-goal performances.
Justus, in her first season on the Forty Acres, earned second team all-region selections after setting the program's single-season wins mark by a goalkeeper with 17 following the Longhorns' 2-1 victory over No. 12 Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The 5-foot-9 junior from Ohio was also instrumental in the Texas defense setting a program record by holding opponents scoreless for 597 consecutive minutes, breaking the previous mark by over 45 minutes.
With the trio's selections, Texas continues a streak of six consecutive seasons with at least one student-athlete selected to a United Soccer Coaches (formally known as the NSCAA) All-Region team. Overall, the 2023 season marked the 25th season in the program's 30-year history that at least one Longhorn women's soccer student-athlete earned an all-region honor.
To cap the week of honors, the United Soccer Coaches organization will announce its All-American selections on Friday, Dec. 1.
