Three road games, one neutral site and one home match highlights Texas’ five-match spring slate
AUSTIN, TX – The University of Texas women's soccer program and head coach Angela Kelly announced Thursday afternoon their 2023 spring soccer schedule.
The five-game slate features three road games — SMU, Stephen F. Austin, and North Texas — one home game — Houston — and a neutral-site match against Oklahoma to be played at field three of Austin FC's St. David's Performance Center. The schedule also allows the Longhorns a sneak preview of conference newcomer, Houston, which is expected to join the Big 12 Conference later this calendar year.
"Spring training has been going very well and now it is time to play someone different than ourselves," said Kelly. "(This schedule features) five high-quality opponents with a great mix of home and away slated. As a unit, we are very excited to compete!"
In 2022, Texas won the Big 12 Conference regular season championship, posted a school-record 17-match unbeaten streak, and finish the season with the second-best winning percentage in program history with a .773 (15-3-4) mark.
Last season, SMU finished with a 10-4-5 record, including a 6-2-1 mark at home, en route to playing for an American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship. The Sooners finished the 2022 campaign with a 9-8-3 mark that included a 3-1 loss to the Longhorns on Oct. 27.
Stephen F. Austin capped last season by winning two of its final three matches to cap a schedule that featured three Power 5 opponents. The Cougars capped their final season in the AAC with a 6-7-3 record that included a tie to both Oklahoma and SMU. North Texas advanced to the semifinals of the C-USA Women's Soccer Championship in 2022 after posting a 12-6-2 record that featured seven conference wins.
Earlier this month, forward Trinity Byars and midfielder Lexi Missimo were selected and are currently participating in training sessions as well as two matches with the United States' Under-23 Women's Youth National Team at Clairefontaine, France's famed National Training Center located outside of Paris.
