Longhorns score second-quickest consecutive goals in conference tilt in program history
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas soccer team wrapped up its 2025 campaign Sunday afternoon, capping off the year with a 2-0 win over Ole Miss at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Ava McDonald and Amalia Villarreal netted a pair of tallies within a 21-second span to help the Longhorns (4-12-1, 2-8 SEC) secure their first shutout victory of the season.
The back-to-back strikes are the second-quickest consecutive goals in a conference match in school history. Texas' program record for fastest consecutive tallies is 14 seconds set by Katie Baruth and Valerie Page against Kansas in a Big 12 contest on Sept. 15, 1996.
In the 20th minute, McDonald opened the scoring by burying a right-footed screamer from 10 yards away into the bottom left corner of the frame. The final goal of her debut campaign marked her first career game-winning tally.
McDonald — who also added an assist on Villarreal's goal — finished her freshman year with a team-leading nine goals and 22 points. During the regular season, the 5-foot-6 forward paced all SEC freshmen in goals, points, shots (67) and shots on goal (32).
Meanwhile, Villarreal found the back of the net for the eighth time, punctuating her sophomore campaign with 18 points. Among all SEC players, the Lansing, Mich., native tied for the sixth-most goals.
Between the pipes, Kendell Williams mounted her first career clean sheet. The redshirt freshman keeper posted three saves.
In the win, the Longhorns matched a season high in shots, boasting a 25-6 advantage in attempts. Texas generated eight corner kicks, while limiting the Rebels (4-8-3, 0-7-3 SEC) to just two.
Following the season finale, the Longhorns hosted their annual Senior Day ceremony. Texas honored Olivia Ahern, Toni Lopez, Kendall Sproat and Breana Thompson. The Longhorns' senior class won 53 matches, guiding Texas to three consecutive conference titles, including the first-ever SEC Championship in school history.
