Texas will await their NCAA tournament placement with the NCAA selection show tonight.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Texas women's basketball held a 27-26 halftime lead, but came up short in the Big 12 Championship final, 61-51 to Iowa State on Sunday at Municipal Auditorium.
Shaylee Gonzales and Taylor Jones scored 12 points each for Texas. Rori Harmon posted six points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Amina Muhammad scored seven points and added nine rebounds.
Gonzales, Harmon and DeYona Gaston earned placement on the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team.
Texas blocked 12 shots in the game to tie the Big 12 Championship game record. Gaston had four of the blocks and Jones blocked three shots.
The Longhorns will learn their tournament selection tonight at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN.
Game Notes
• Texas is now 25-9 overall for the season.
• With their 12 blocks in the game Texas brings their season total to 198, which moves them into second on their all-time list for single season blocks by the team. The program record is 199 blocks.
• Rori Harmon's seven assists give her 213 for the season. She is now seven assists from moving into third on the UT all-time sophomore list for assists.
• Texas limited Iowa State to 20-59 (33.9 percent) shooting from the field.
• Texas held Iowa State to 15 points below their season scoring average.
• Texas made their eighth appearance in the Big 12 Championship game.
