Women's Basketball earns No. 4 seed, will host first and second rounds in Austin

Longhorns captured first regular season Big 12 Championship since the 2003-04 season.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas women's basketball team will continue their historic season by hosting first and second round games in Moody Center as they earned a No. 4 seed in the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Longhorns will take on No. 13 seed East Carolina in their first round game on Saturday, March 18. The other teams coming to Austin will be No. 5 seed Louisville and No. 12 seed Drake. Times for the games will be forthcoming.
Texas will make their 35th appearance in the NCAA tournament, which is the fourth most among NCAA DI teams.
Texas finished the regular season with a mark of 25-9 overall. With a 14-4 record in Big 12 play the Longhorns earned a share of the Big 12 regular season title, their first since the 2003-04 season.
Texas head coach Vic Schaefer earned Big 12 Coach of the Year. Rori Harmon earned Defensive Player of the Year and Shaylee Gonzales earned Newcomer of the Year. Harmon and DeYona Gaston earned placement on the All-Big 12 First Team. Gonzales earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team. Harmon was selected to the All-Defensive Team and Amina Muhammad was selected to the All-Freshman team.
Last season, Texas hosted first and second round games in Austin at the Erwin Center. The Longhorns beat Fairfield and Utah to advance to the Sweet 16 and took down No. 14/15 Ohio State to reach the Elite Eight before falling to No. 2 Stanford.
In his third season in Austin, head coach Vic Schaefer has led Texas to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances, the 2022 Big 12 Tournament Championship and the 2023 Regular Season Championship.
