No. 9/7 Men's Basketball falls 75-73 at No. 22/22 TCU

Rice leads the Longhorns with a team-high 16 points on Wednesday night in Fort Worth.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Graduate guard Sir'Jabari Rice recorded a team-high 16 points, but No. 9/7 Texas (22-8, 11-6 Big 12) dropped a 75-73 decision at No. 22/22 TCU (20-10, 9-8 Big 12) on Wednesday night in Schollmaier Arena. This marked the first time all season that the Longhorns have lost consecutive games.
Rice converted 3-of-6 three-point field goals and added four assists without a turnover in 31 minutes. Sophomore Tyrese Hunter posted 15 points while converting 5-of-10 field goals, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 3-of-3 free throws in 30 minutes. Graduate Marcus Carr tallied 10 points and three assists in 32 minutes, and senior Dylan Disu added 10 points (6-6 FT), five rebounds and three blocks in 20 minutes.
TCU jumped out to a 12-5 advantage following a Damion Baugh three-pointer with 16:03 remaining. The Longhorns closed to within 12-10 after a Rice three-pointer at the 14:09 mark, before the Horned Frogs responded with a 6-0 spurt over the next 90 seconds to build an 18-10 cushion following a Jakobe Coles jumper with 12:34 left.
An Eddie Lampkin layup gave TCU a 25-17 lead at the 10:06 mark, before Texas used a 5-0 spurt to trim the deficit to 25-22 after another Rice three-pointer with 8:50 remaining. TCU answered with seven-straight points to build a 32-22 advantage following a Xavier Cork layup at the 6:31 mark. A Christian Bishop dunk brought Texas to within 36-28 with 4:42 left, but the Horned Frogs went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to increase their cushion to 44-28 after a pair of Baugh free throws at the 1:33 mark. The Longhorns scored the final four points of the half to pull to within 44-32 at the break.
TCU increased the lead to 49-36 following an Emanuel Miller three-point play with 16:46 remaining. The Longhorns used a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to trim the margin to 51-46 after an Arterio Morris three-pointer at the 11:50 mark. The Horned Frogs pushed their advantage to 63-51 following a pair of Miller free throws with 7:03 left.
After another Miller free throw gave TCU a 64-54 cushion at the 6:15 mark, the Longhorns used a 6-1 spurt over the next 90 seconds to close to within 65-60 following a pair of Brock Cunningham free throws with 4:27 remaining. A pair of Miller free throws increased TCU's lead to 69-60 at the 2:44 mark, before Texas went on an 8-2 run to trim the deficit to 71-68 after a Hunter three-pointer with 1:02 left. The Longhorns could not get any closer until a Rice three-pointer at the buzzer made the final score 75-73.
Texas returns to the court on Saturday, March 4 when it hosts No. 3/3 Kansas. Tip is set for 3 p.m. Central at Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
