Men’s Swimming & Diving places third at NCAA Championships

The Longhorns have finished in the top three in each of the last nine NCAA Championships.
MINNEAPOLIS – Men's Swimming and Diving's finished in third at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center. The Longhorns have finished in the top-three at each of the last nine NCAA Championships. Now in his 45th season as head coach, Eddie Reese recorded the 36th top-three national result of his career.
The Longhorns concluded the four-day national meet with 384 points, trailing national champion California (482) and runner-up Arizona State (430). Indiana (379) and NC State (373.5) rounded out the top five.

The Longhorns finals session was highlighted by a silver-medal performance in the 200 breast by Caspar Corbeau. The senior posted a career-best time of 1:49.15 to finish second, the third-fastest time in program history. In the prelims, Hh clocked a then-personal-best of 1:49.98, joining Will Licon as the only Longhorns in program history to swim a sub-1:50 in the event. He is now the eighth-fastest performer in the event all time. In the consolation final, Jake Foster posted a time of 1:51.85 to finish fourth in the heat and 12th overall.
David Johnston kicked off the evening finals session with a fourth-place finish in the 1650 free, swimming a season-best 14:35.51 to collect his third-straight All-American honor in the event. Freshman Alec Enyeart earned his first career national honor, collecting Honorable Mention All-American accolades in the 1650 free after swimming 14:47.13 to place 13th overall.
Carson Foster followed with an eighth-place finish in the 200 back, his third individual All-American honor of the week and the third of his career in the event.
Daniel Krueger earned a 15th-place finish result in the 100 free, touching the wall in 42.22, and Sam Artmann placed 12th in the 200 fly in 1:42.32.
On platform, Noah Duperre earned his second honorable mention All-American accolade of the meet after taking fourth in the consolation final with 352.55 points to place 12th overall. Texas Diving finished the meet with all three divers, including Nick Harris and Brendan McCourt, scoring points in each of the seven combined events they competed in, including a pair of championship final performances. UT had the third-most points among the divers with 44 points. Indiana led the meet with 104 points, followed by Ohio State with 72 points.
Heading into the 400 free relay, the final event of the championships, Texas was in third with three-point advantage over Indiana and 12.5-point lead over NC State with the Longhorns racing in the second of three heats and the Hoosiers and Wolfpack in the final heat. The Horns relay squad of Krueger, Luke Hobson, Corbeau and Peter Larson dominated their heat, swimming a season-best 2:47.15, winning by 1.78 seconds ahead of runner-up Virginia. In the final heat, NC State and Indiana went back and forth, trading positions with NC State finally taking command, placing fourth in their heat in 2:47.09 and Indiana fifth in 2:47.15. The resulting order of finish had NC State in fourth, Texas in fifth and Indiana placing sixth to secure third place overall for Texas.
