Men’s Swimming & Diving leads 2026 NCAA Championships after day three with 340.5 Points

Kós breaks NCAA, U.S. Open, program and meet records in prelims and finals of 100 backstroke; Longhorns set program record in 400 medley relay.
ATLANTA — Texas men's swimming and diving holds its lead with 340.5 points through three days of competition at the NCAA Championships, ahead of Florida (331) and Indiana (254) at McAuley Aquatic Center. The Longhorns were led by record-breaking performances from Hubert Kós in the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.
Kós broke his own NCAA, U.S. Open, program and meet records during prelims of the 100-yard backstroke when he touched first in 43.08. During finals, Kós dropped 0.47 seconds from his prelim record to establish new records at 42.61 and defend his 100-yard backstroke title, improving on his previous championship time of 43.20.
Texas also saw two juniors earn All-American finishes. Nate Germonprez touched the wall fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:49.69. Will Modglin finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, dropping 0.28 seconds from his prelim time of 44.08 to finish in 43.80.
Rex Maurer secured a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, dropping nearly a full second from his prelim time of 4:08.78 to touch in 4:07.88.
Nick Harris earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish on 3-meter, totaling 415.00 points. Harris was highlighted by a forward 4½ somersault tuck that scored 89.30, along with matching 74.80-point efforts on the forward 2½ somersault with 2 twists pike and inward 3½ somersault tuck. Luke Forester followed with a seventh-place All-America finish, posting 405.55 points, led by a 76.50-point inward 3½ somersault tuck and a 69.00-point inward 2½ somersault pike.
Texas capped the night with a program-record performance in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Modglin, Germonprez, Kós and Camden Taylor touched the wall in 2:57.22, breaking the program's previous record of 2:57.64 set at the 2026 SEC Championships.
Will Scholtz earned an Honorable Mention All-America designation after finishing 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:52.05.
The final day will feature the 200-yard IM, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, platform diving and 400-yard freestyle relay. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT with finals set for 5 p.m. CT at McAuley Aquatic Center. Both sessions will be streamed on ESPN+.
