Longhorns claim back-to-back titles, 17th in program history behind Kós’ record-breaking 200 backstroke.

ATLANTA – Texas Men's Swimming and Diving captured the 2026 NCAA Championship Saturday at McAuley Aquatic Center, fueled by Hubert Kós' record-breaking victory in the 200-yard backstroke. The Longhorns scored 445.5 points to secure their second consecutive national championship and 17th in program history. Florida finished second with 416 points, and Indiana took third with 351 points. Coach Bob Bowman now has three consecutive NCAA titles, dating to his 2024 championship at Arizona State.
Kós led the way with a record-breaking performance in the 200-yard backstroke, touching first in 1:34.13 to break his own NCAA, U.S. Open, meet and program records. The Hungarian standout now holds back-to-back NCAA titles in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke.
This marked the first team national championship for The University of Texas during the 2025-26 academic year. Texas now owns 69 all-time National Championships, including 65 NCAA crowns. During the last six years, the Longhorns have won a total of 14 NCAA team titles by eight different programs. Excluding the COVID-shortened year of 2019-20, Texas has won at least one NCAA Championship in 11-straight seasons.
The final evening session opened with a pair of Longhorns earning All-America honors in the 200-yard individual medley, where Baylor Nelson finished third in 1:40.08, improving 0.74 seconds from his prelim time.Texas sealed the championship with a sixth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Kós, Garrett Gould, Rafael Fente-Damers and Kyle Peck touched the wall in 2:45.97, a program-record time.

Campbell McKean and Nate Germonprez earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200-yard individual medley, with McKean placing ninth in 1:48.21 and Germonprez 14th in 1:42.26. Texas added two more honorable mentions in the 200-yard butterfly as Kyle Peck finished 13th in 1:39.94 and Cooper Lucas 14th in 1:40.11. Rex Maurer placed 11th in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:38.36, and Garrett Gould was 14th in the 100-yard freestyle in 41.47.
