No. 8 Women’s Golf in sixth after round two of PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. — Texas freshman Emily Odwin led the Longhorns on day two of the Ping/ASU Invitational at the Papago Golf Club on Saturday.
Odwin, a native of St. James, Barbados, carded a three-under-par 69 on the second day of the tournament. Odwin made four birdies and one bogey to charge up the leaderboard. After making three bogeys in her first four holes to open the tournament, Odwin has one bogey in her last 32 holes.
Freshman Angela Heo rebounded from a first round 79 to shoot a one-over-par 73 in the second round. Sophie Guo matched her with a one-over-par 73 with three birdies on her card.
No. 8 Texas has shot rounds of 294-290 for a tournament score of eight-over-par. The Longhorns made seven birdies on the back nine holes. No. 23 Northwestern leads the tournament at 12-under, No. 11 Arizona State is second at four-under-par and No. 14 Baylor is at one-over-par.
The Ping/ASU Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Sunday, March 26. The No. 8 Longhorns (+8) will be paired with No. 6 Mississippi State (+2) and No. 5 Oregon (+4) in the final round.
The Lineup
• Freshman Emily Odwin charged up the leaderboard on round two, improving by 29 spots to her T10 position. Odwin carded four birdies and one bogey for her round. Odwin made birdie on her final hole of the day, the par 4, 18th hole. The three-under-par 69 is her best round of the season and she will try to improve on her best finish of the season, a T18 at the Momorial.
• Sophie Guo carded her second straight day of 73 and is T23 on the individual leaderboard. Guo made three birdies in her round.
• Cindy Hsu carded one birdie on her way to a 78 in the second round of the tournament and is also T23 for the tournament.
• Angela Heo jumped up the leaderboard by 14 spots with her one-over-par 73 on the day. Heo made one birdie, two bogeys and 15 pars in her second round.
• Bentley Cotton shot a second round of three-over-par 75. Cotton birdied both of the par 5's on the back nine in her round.
