LEADING OFF
- Per the Big 12 Conference, Texas can clinch the number two seed for next week's Big 12 Conference tournament with one of three scenarios:
- If Texas beats Baylor and Oklahoma defeats Oklahoma State the same night.
- If Texas wins two games against Baylor over the weekend.
- If Texas drops all three to Baylor and Oklahoma State defeats Oklahoma only once over the weekend.
- Prior to Friday night's game in Austin, four Longhorn softball student-athletes will be honors as part of senior festivities: Alyssa Popelka, Camille Corona, Courtney Day and Lou Gilbert.
- Additionally, graduate assistant Hailey Dolcini and team manager Will Johniken will be recognized as well.
- Viviana Martinez became the first Texas softball freshman student-athlete under fifth-year Longhorn head coach Mike White to hit a grand slam in a game following her game-ending grand slam against Sam Houston on Wednesday, May 3.
- Prior to Martinez' home run, Jordyn Whitaker and Bella Dayton were the youngest — classification wise — to accomplish the feat when the duo hit grand slams against Kansas and Texas Tech, respectively, as sophomores during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively.
- Mia Scott will enter Friday night's game against Baylor as the only softball student-athlete in program history with back-to-back seasons with 14-or-more doubles following her two-base hit in the bottom of the first inning against Sam Houston on Wednesday, May 3.
- With her team-leading 15th double on the season in the bottom of the third inning against Sam Houston on Wednesday, May 3, Leighann Goode now has the most doubles in a single season by a freshman in Texas' softball history.
- Heading into Friday night's showdown with conference foe Baylor, Viviana Martinez will have already claimed Texas' single-season RBI record by a freshman student-athlete following her career-high six-RBI performance against Sam Houston on Wednesday, May 3.
- Martinez will enter this weekend's three-game series against Baylor with 46 RBI on the season, which is now tied for the eighth most by a Longhorn softball student-athlete in a single season.
- Mia Scott will enter Friday evening's game against the Bears with a 12-game hitting streak, which is tied for the 13th overall longest hitting streak in program and the sixth longest in terms of games.
- Scott's current hitting streak, which is the longest by any Longhorn softball student-athlete this season, is the first exact 12-game hitting streak since Celina Felix accomplished the feat from April 23 to May 21, 2016.
- Additionally, Scott's current 12-game hitting streak is the longest by any Texas softball student-athlete since Mary Iakopo had a 15-game streak from March 12 to April 2, 2021.
- With a win over Baylor on Friday, the 2023 Texas softball program will tie the 2013 team for the fourth-most home wins in a single season with 29.
- The 2006 Longhorn squad currently holds the program's single-season home wins record with 32.
- In games played in Austin, Texas holds a 20-8 all-time mark against Baylor during the 60-game history between the two softball programs.
- Since Mike White took over at the helm of the Longhorn softball program prior to the 2019 season, Texas is 8-1 against Baylor including a 5-1 mark in games played in Austin.
