Baseball caps MLB Draft with four selections on final day

The Longhorns had a total of six players selected in the 2023 MLB Draft.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball had four players selected on the final day of the 2023 MLB Draft to bring the Longhorns total to six draft picks. Travis Sthele was picked in the 12th round by the Washington Nationals, Zane Morehouse was taken in the 14th round by the Cleveland Guardians, Garret Guillemette was drafted in the 15th round by the Houston Astros and Tanner Witt was picked in the 18th round by the Baltimore Orioles.
Sthele, who was selected with the 345th overall pick by the Nationals, made 15 appearances with 10 starts in 2023 and posed a 5.75 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 61 innings. In his career, he posted a 6-6 record in 36 total appearances with 98 strikeouts in 95.1 innings pitched.
Morehouse, who was taken with the 428th overall pick by the Guardians, led the Longhorns with seven saves and posted a 4-3 record with 60 strikeouts over 57 innings pitched. In his Texas career, Morehouse posted seven wins and seven saves with 103 strikeouts in 96 innings pitched.
Guillemette, who was selected with the 464th overall pick by the Astros, was the First Team All-Big 12 catcher in his one season with the Longhorns. He batted .298 with 18 doubles, 11 homers and led the Longhorns with 60 RBI.
Witt, who was taken with the 541st overall pick by the Orioles, was a preseason All-American this season after returning from injury. In his career, Witt posted a 9-1 record with five saves and 95 strikeouts in 78.2 innings pitched.
With the six MLB Draft selections in 2023, at least one Longhorn has been drafted every year since the Major League Baseball draft began.
