Football ranked No. 11 in Associated Press preseason poll

The Longhorns have been ranked in the AP preseason poll six times in the last seven seasons.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas Football program, entering its third season under head coach Steve Sarkisian, is ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll, which was released on Monday. The Longhorns are ranked No. 12 in the Preseason USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.
It is the sixth time in the last seven seasons in which Texas has been ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 and the highest ranking since 2019.
The Longhorns' schedule features six home games and 10 contests that will take place in the state of Texas, with the Alabama and Iowa State games being the lone ones outside of the state. The Longhorns' 2023 opponents combined for an overall record of 92-66 (.582) in 2022. Eleven of the opponents went to bowls, including three who played in New Year's Six bowls – National Runner-up TCU, Alabama and Big 12 Champion Kansas State, while three opponents totaled double-digit wins – TCU (13), Alabama (11) and Kansas State (10).
Texas opens the 2023 season with a home contest against Rice at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on FOX.
