Women’s Tennis sweeps singles, doubles titles at River Oaks Invitational

Senior Malaika Rapolu captured the singles championship, while Rapolu and sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky did so in doubles.
Houston – Texas Women's Tennis swept the singles and doubles titles at the River Oaks Invitational in Houston that were held Friday through Sunday in Houston.
Senior No. 99 Malaika Rapolu captured the singles championship with a 3-0 record, while Rapolu and sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky did so in doubles with the same mark. Freshman Maddy MacNeille also competed for the Longhorns and closed with her first singles win at Texas on Sunday.
Rapolu opened with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jeanette Mireles of Texas A&M on Friday, and she followed with a pair of wins over LSU Tigers in Florentine Dekkers, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, on Saturday, and Kinaa Graham, 6-3, 7-5, on Sunday.
Rapolu also partnered with Ovrootsky for a 6-3 victory over Mireles and Lizanne Boyer of Texas A&M on Friday, and the duo then claimed two wins on Saturday – 7-5 over Dekkers and Graham of LSU, and 6-3 over Mireles and Gianna Pielet of Texas A&M.
Ovrootsky also closed with a singles win on Sunday, topping Mireles, 6-2, 6-2. That gave the Longhorns a 3-0 singles record on the final day with MacNeille downing Carina Holguin of LSU, 6-2, 6-1.
Texas will next compete in the Intercollegiate Championships in San Diego from Sept. 21-24.
