AUSTIN, Texas – The journey to Super Bowl LVII begins on Saturday as the NFL Playoffs get underway with 13 former Longhorns vying to continue the Super Bowl legacy that The University of Texas has established.
This weekend, eight former Longhorns are set to appear on active rosters representing six teams. That group includes DL Poona Ford of the Buffalo Bills, WR Marquise Goodwin of the Cleveland Browns, FB Andrew Beck and DB Kris Boyd of the Houston Texans, DL Charles Omenihu of the Kansas City Chiefs, DBs DeShon Elliot and Brandon Jones of the Miami Dolphins and DL Moro Ojomo of the Philadelphia Eagles. A trio of Longhorns are on injured reserve and will not play during the postseason: LB DeMarvion Overshown of the Dallas Cowboys, DT Hassan Ridgeway of the Houston Texans and OL Connor Williams of the Miami Dolphins. Rod Wright serves as an assistant defensive line coach with Houston.
Several Longhorns represent teams with first-round byes in the playoffs, including WR/PR Devin Duvernay and PK Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Texas has also had at least one representative in 17 of the last 18 Super Bowls. There have been 27 former Longhorns to claim a Super Bowl Championship ring, while 64 have been members of 53 different Super Bowl teams.
