AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's golf freshmen Farah O'Keefe and Lauren Kim have accepted invitations to compete in the 2024 Augusta National Women's Amateur, held April 3-6 in Augusta, Ga.
Beginning the week prior to the 88th Masters Tournament, the international field will compete across 54 holes of stroke play, with a cut to 30 players and ties taking place after 36 holes. The first two rounds will take place on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round on Friday, April 5. The final round will take place at Augusta National on Saturday, April 6 and will feature the competitors who made the cut.
O'Keefe, who was named to the final fall ANNIKA Award watch list for top female DI golfer of the year, has had an excellent start to her collegiate career. The Austin, Texas native, O'Keefe finished T5 at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and T2 at the Windy City Collegiate this fall. O'Keefe shot an opening 64 in the Windy City Collegiate, to match the low 18-hole round in UT program history. This past summer, O'Keefe qualified and competed in the U.S. Women's Open Championship at Pebble Beach.
Kim qualified for the second straight year for the U.S. Women's Open Championship and competed with O'Keefe at Pebble Beach this summer. Kim's summer was also highlighted by capturing the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship. Kim continued that momentum into collegiate golf, where this fall she earned medalist honors at the Jackson T Stephens Cup. Through nine rounds this fall, Kim had a stroke average of 70.67 with eight of her nine rounds at par or better.
"Receiving the invitation from Augusta National is an accomplishment in itself," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "Only the best amateurs in the world receive the invite and it's a small field of only 72 players. Having two freshmen receive an invitation makes me feel really good. They both earned it through their play over the past year and specifically some great play this past summer and fall. Lauren and Farah are what we call "the real deal." I'm super proud of them both and grateful that they will represent themselves and the University of Texas this coming April at Augusta National."
