Longhorns sweep first SEC weekly swimming awards.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Women's Swimming and Diving's Emma Sticklen and Jillian Cox were awarded with their first SEC weekly awards on Monday.
Sticklen, the graduate student out of Katy, Texas, was named the SEC Swimmer of the Week after winning four events in the dual meet against No. 18 LSU. The two-time NCAA champion made history over the weekend with her 200 fly time of 1:49.77. The time not only set an LSU Natatorium pool record, but also broke her own UT record and broke the two-year SEC record by two seconds.
She completed the sweep in butterfly winning the 100 in 50.23. Sticklen also added two relay wins, splitting 22.97 in the 200 medley relay and 47.74 in the 400 free relay. All four races set pool records.
Cox made her UT and collegiate debut and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors. The Cedar Park, Texas native swept the distance free events and broke the UT program record in the 1000 to top it all. She posted a time of 9:25.88 to break the record and completed the sweep with her time of 4:39.78 in the 500.
