Men’s Tennis advances five to second round of ITA Texas Regionals

Five of six Longhorns moved on in singles in Waco on Saturday.
Waco, Texas – Texas Men's Tennis advanced five of its six singles player to the second round of the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
Junior No. 29 Jonah Braswell, sophomore No. 124 Lucas Brown, and freshmen Evan Burnett, Timo Legout and Calvin Wang all won their first-round matches in the main draw without dropping a set. Braswell downed Filip Apltauer of TCU, 6-3, 6-4, Brown defeated Maks Silagy of SMU, 6-4, 6-4, Burnett topped Abdulraheem Isa of Prairie View A&M, 6-2, 6-2, Legout downed Takeyasu Sekiguchi of Texas Tech, 6-1, 6-1, and Wang defeated Leon Nickel of Lamar, 6-4, 6-3. In the lone defeat, freshman Rahul Sachdev fell to top-seeded #17 JC Roddick, 6-1, 6-0.
On Friday, 3 seed Braswell will play Noah McDonald of SMU at 10:30 a.m. CT, while the other five matches will be played at noon, including 9-16 seed Brown against Kabeer Kapasi of Rice, Wang versus 4 seed No. 49 Zsombar Velcz of Baylor, Evan Burnett against 8 seed No. 116 Togan Tokac of Texas A&M, and 9-16 seed Legout facing Pedro Sasso of UT-Arlington.
In doubles, Wang and Sachdev dropped their match Sasso and Yazid Lahjomri of UT-Arlington, 8-4, while the pairs of Legout and Brown, and Braswell and Burnett both had first-round byes.
Legout and Brown will take on Noah McDonald and Xavier Calvelo of SMU at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday, and Braswell and Burnett will play Daniel Perez-Caraballo and Ian Uraga of UT-Arlington at 9:45 a.m. CT.
