Men’s Tennis wins four matches on day one of Big 12/SEC Challenge

The Longhorns won both doubles contests plus two in singles to open the tournament in Waco.
Waco, Texas – Texas Men's Tennis won four matches in the Big 12/SEC Challenge at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco on Friday. The Longhorns won both of their doubles contests, along with two of their four singles matches on the opening day of competition.
Texas began the day with a top-10 win in doubles as senior Pierre-Yves Bailly and freshman Timo Legout partnered to defeat No. 7 Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak of Texas Tech, 8-3. Sophomore Lucas Brown and freshman Evan Burnett then won by the same score against Tyler Stewart and Niksa Arsic of the Red Raiders.
Legout and Brown then followed with singles victories later in the day, making Legout a combined 2-0 in his debut for the Longhorns. Legout's singles win was also a ranked one, as he topped No. 109 Casper Christensen of Arizona in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-1. Brown, ranked No. 124 in singles, posted a similar strong score with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Filip Gustafsson of the Wildcats.
The tournament features individual play with members of schools of the SEC, including Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Texas A&M playing those of the Big 12, including Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Play continues on Saturday when the Longhorns will take on players from Arizona State in doubles, and Oklahoma State in singles. They will then face OSU in doubles and Baylor in singles on Sunday.
Due to scoreboard renovations at the Hurd Tennis Center, live stats may not be available, however results will be entered into the draw on the ITA Tournament Hub.
