Cross Country finishes fourth (men), fifth (women) at SEC Championships

Texas won the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown with both teams finishing higher than A&M.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Cross Country program posted two top-five finishes at its first SEC Cross Country Championships on Friday morning.
The No. 28 women were led by senior Eva Jess who recorded a 22-second personal best time in the 6k at 19:38.1. It's the second time this season Jess has led the Longhorns as the top finisher as Texas finished fifth overall with 150 points. Jess' finish earned her second-team All-SEC honors.
The women finished behind Alabama (72), Tennessee (103), Florida (122) and Arkansas (132).
Elizabeth Pickett (19:46.8) and Olivia Howell (19:47.0) were 16th and 17th, respectively and were named third-team All-SEC.
Freshman Sydni Wilkins was next for the Longhorns with her time of 20:14.9, a 36-second personal best. Kyra Pretre (20:32.6), Brighton Mooney (20;39.7) and Elizabeth Stockman (20:45.7) were the final scorers for UT.
The men's team finished fourth overall with 152 points led by Isaac Alonzo's seventh-place finish in the 8K. He finished with a time of 22:38.5 and shed 40 seconds off his previous best. Alonzo earned first-team All-SEC honors for finishing in the top-seven.
Nathanael Berhane ran his second race of the season and finished 29th in 23:27.7, while Logan Patete took over a minute off his best in 23:34.3. Emmanuel Sgouros was 27th in 23:39.0 in his third race of the year.
Hudson Heikkinen (23:52.9), Jack Boyd (24:17.7) and Adam Burlison (24:19.3) were the final scorers to help UT finish fourth.
Texas finished behind Arkansas (38), Alabama (52) and Ole Miss (122).
The Longhorns also won the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown finishing in front of Texas A&M in both team races.
