Longhorns compete for automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas cross country teams return to the course on Friday morning when they travel to College Station for the NCAA South Central Regional meet at the Watts Cross Country Course.
The women will go off at 9am to compete in the 6K, followed by the men in the 10K at 10 a.m.
Friday's competition will see a stacked field of competition with two team spots for the NCAA Championships on the line.
The men are looking to make it 15-straight appearances at the NCAA meet, not including the 2020 season where Co-VID canceled the meet. The women look to return to the championship meet for the first time since 2022 and first time under women's distance coach Sarah Smith.
Last time out, the men finished fourth at the SEC Championships scoring 152 points. The Longhorn men were led by a 40-second personal best by Isaac Alonzo in the 8K after finishing seventh overall. On the women's side, Eva Jess posted a 22-second personal best in the 6K and was the top finisher for UT in 12th.
Out of the nine regionals in the country, the top-two teams receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. The first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships. If a team doesn't secure an automatic bid, teams will have to rely on the NCAA Committee to select it as one of the 13 at-large teams.
Results from tomorrow's regionals can be followed on Flash Results.
