Jones records double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
AUSTIN, Texas — Taylor Jones posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to help Texas to a 97-39 win over Southern on Wednesday at Moody Center.
Kyla Oldacre added 16 points and eight rebounds and Madison Booker recorded 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Rori Harmon dished out nine assists with one turnover.
Jones, Oldacre and Booker combined to shoot 18-of-21 from the field with 52 points scored.
Texas jumped out to an 8-0 lead on a jumper from Harmon and held Southern to 11 points in the first quarter as the Longhorns led 22-11 after the opening period.
Texas extended their lead to 31-13 in the second quarter after a steal and layup by Oldacre. The Longhorns went into halftime with a 46-24 lead.
The Longhorns outscored Southern 28-9 in the third quarter. In the final quarter Texas used a 21-2 run and scored Southern 23-6 in the final period. The Longhorns held Southern to two field goals in the final quarter and held them scoreless for the final 5:54 of the game.
The Longhorns honored senior Shay Holle pregame for setting a program record for games played in the NCAA Era. Holle set the record of 140 games last week against Notre Dame and tonight played in her 142ndgame.
Up next the Longhorns travel to Richmond, Va., to take on Richmond on Sunday, Dec. 15 with a tip time of 12:00 p.m. CT.
