Texas freshmen combine for 41 points in the Longhorn victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No.6/6 Texas women's basketball team held RV South Dakota State 15 points below their season scoring average and scored 39 points more than the Jackrabbits were allowing to opponents this season in a 103-57 win at Moody Center on Sunday.
Texas snapped the Jackrabbits seven game winning streak and go into the holiday break at 12-1 with one more non-conference game remaining before the start of SEC play.
Freshman Justice Carlton posted 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds, the second-highest point total of her career. Senior Taylor Jones posted her fourth double-double of the season and 22nd of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Lee, a freshman guard started the game and added 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and four rebounds, while guard Rori Harmon recorded 13 points, seven assists and six steals.
Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, the South Dakota native, scored 10 points in 11 minutes.
The Texas freshmen (Justice Carlton, Jordan Lee and Bryanna Preston) combined for 41 points on 17-of-27 shooting (63 percent) from the field.
Texas, who never trailed in the contest, converted 53.9 percent (41-76) from the floor and 89.5 percent (17-19) from the free throw line.
To start the first quarter, Lee knocked down seven points in the first 3:27 of the game. Texas finished the opening quarter up 24-11 with a layup from freshman Bryanna Preston.
To end the half, the Longhorns went on a 10-0 run at 3:59 in the second quarter to extend the team's lead to 53-26. Carlton scored 17 out of 29 Texas points in the second quarter to become the leading scorer in the first half.
With a layup and a free throw from senior guard Rori Harmon, the Longhorns started the second half 56-26. Texas continued the third quarter with a 6-0 run over 1:48 of playing time to extend their lead. To end the fourth quarter, Texas made their last four shots.
