Madison Booker leads Texas with 20 points.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Madison Booker scored 20 points and Rori Harmon came up with clutch plays to send the game into overtime, but the Texas women's basketball team came up short on the road against No. 10/10 Notre Dame in an 80-70 defeat on Thursday.
Booker recorded her 17th career game with at least 20 points and added eight rebounds and five assists. Shay Holle made four 3-pointers and tallied 14 points and Kyla Oldacre came off the bench to score 13 points.
Holle played in her 140th game to set a Texas program record for games played in the NCAA era. Taylor Jones scored eight points to pass 1,500 career points.
In the first quarter Holle showed her speed and she ran down a long Notre Dame pass to force a turnover. Holle converted on the offensive end with Texas getting the ball back and she knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Longhorns up 13-12 at the first media timeout.
Holle knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half and led Texas with 14 points. Booker scored 11 for the Longhorns in the opening half, but Texas trailed 39-34.
In the third quarter Notre Dame used an 8-0 run to go up 49-40. The Longhorns responded with a 6-0 run with a pair of baskets by Oldacre to cut that lead to three at 49-46. Notre Dame led 53-48 going into the final quarter.
With 5:51 to play in the fourth quarter Laila Phelia knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Longhorns a 60-59 lead. The game went back and fourth with 11 ties and nine lead changes.
Notre Dame led 66-64 with under 30 seconds to play and Harmon knocked down a corner jumper to tie the game with 7.7 seconds to play. Olivia Miles hit a layup with two seconds left, but Notre Dame fouled Rori Harmon, who made a pair of free-throws to send the game into overtime.
Texas struck first in overtime with a basket by Oldacre to go up 70-68, but Notre Dame made a pair of 3-pointers to take a 76-70 lead and secure the victory.
Up next the Longhorns will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., where they will matchup against James Madison on Sunday, Dec. 8 with a tip at 1:00 p.m. CT.
