No. 9 Men’s Swim & Dive wins at SMU, 162-137

The Longhorns defeated the Mustangs in the final dual meet for head coach Eddie Reese.
DALLAS – No. 9 Texas Men's Swimming & Diving won 11 events to top SMU, 162-137, on Friday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center in what was the final dual meet for legendary Texas head coach Eddie Reese. Reese, who is retiring following the 2024 United States Olympic Trials in June, has an all-time dual meet mark of 323-88 with a 293-77 record at Texas.
The Longhorns started the meet Will Modglin, Will Scholtz, Cole Crane and Camden Taylor winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.39.
Modglin and Scholtz each added a pair of individual race victories over the Mustangs, while Taylor earned one as well.
Modglin earned the win in the 100 back in 45.67 and later added a win in the 200 back with a swim of 1:42.82.
Scholtz took first in the 100 breast with a swim of 52.96, then earned the win the 200 breast, touching the wall in 1:57.03.
Taylor collected another win for Texas with a season-best 43.80 in the 100 free.
Alec Enyeart added a victory in the 1000 free, touching the wall in a season-best 9:01.20 and Nate Germonprez tallied a win in the 200 IM, registering a swim of 1:44.22.
Nick Harris dominated the 1-meter springboard, scoring a season-best 400.13 points to win by over 33 points, while Manuel Borowski won on 3-meter after scoring 386.25 points.
Modglin, Taylor, Aleksej Filipovic and Peter Paulus IV finished the night with a victory in the 200 free relay, combining for a time of 1:17.50.
The Longhorns will now prepare for the Big 12 Conference Championship to be held Feb. 27-Mar. 2 in Morgantown, W.Va.
Team Notes
- Germonprez took second in the 200 free with a season-best swim of 1:34.52.
- Sasha Lyubavskiy placed third in the 1000 free in 9:12.46, while Chris O'Connor took third in the 100 back with a time of 47.96.
- Sam Artmann placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 47.16 and third in the 200 fly in 1:44.81.
- The Horns took second and third in the 50 free, with Taylor collecting the runner-up result in 20.24 and Paulus swimming 20.34 to place third.
- Coby Carrozza posted a season best in the 500 free with a swim of 4:16.92 to place second, while Andrew Zettle swam a season-best 4:27.82 to place third.
- Texas swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.
- Tanner Braunton was the runner-up on 1-meter with 366.53 points, while Brendan McCourt was third with 350.93 points.
- Harris took second on 3-meter with 383.48 points and McCourt scored 375.68 to place third.
