Neugebauer and Nubbe break records on second day of Texas Relays

Leo Neugebauer records third-best decathlon score in NCAA history
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas track and field program won three events on the second day of the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist.
Leo Neugebauer and Jeremiah Nubbe had record-breaking performances to highlight the day for Texas.
Neugebauer claimed his third-straight Texas Relays decathlon title, breaking the Texas Relays record for the second year in a row with a score of 8,708 points. Neugebauer's score marks the third-best score in a decathlon in NCAA history behind his own collegiate record (8,836) and Kyle Garland of Georgia's score of 8,720 points.
The NCAA 2023 decathlon champion's day two was sparked by a 14.51 time in the 110-meter hurdles, a throw of 51.50m in the discus, a clearance of 5.10m in pole vault, a personal-best throw of 58.99m in javelin and a run of 4:51.05 in the 1500m. Freshman Brock Lewis completed his first collegiate decathlon and scored 6,768 points and finished 10th.
Sophomore hammer thrower Jeremiah Nubbe broke his own Texas program record in the hammer throw with a heave of 73.11m (239-10). Nubbe broke the 70-meter barrier on his three final throws. Senior Luke Partridge broke into the all-time top-10 list with his throw of 56.18m (18-4) at No. 8.
Junior Allyson Little secured the last win of the day for the Longhorns, claiming the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:41.57. The time improves her spot on the All-Time top-10 list in UT history at No. 6.
Kristine Blazevica returned for the second day of the heptathlon and finished third with a score of 5,662 points. The score is tied for the 15th-best performance in school history with Ashtin Zamzow from 2018.
Blazevica recorded a jump of 5.86m in the long jump, threw for 38.78m in the javelin and ended the competition with the fastest 800-meter time of the competition in 2:13.27. The time ranks as the second-fastest outdoor time she's ever ran.
In the women's 5,000-meter, junior Eva Jess moved to No. 8 on the UT All-Time performer list with an 11-second personal best time of 16:04.83. Jess finished third overall in the race.
The lone prelim races saw two Longhorns advance to finals with freshman Akala Garrett running the fourth-fastest time in the 400m hurdles in 57.54. Chris Brinkley Jr., also posted the fourth-fastest time on the men's side in 51.32.
