No. 7/14 Track and Field closes day one at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 7/14 Texas Track and Field team wrapped up the first day of the Texas Invitational on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Texas Pro Dina Asher-Smith finished first in the women's 200-meter dash in a time of 22.29. Dejanea Oakley crossed the finish line second in a personal-best time of 22.73, and Kenondra Davis was third in 22.90. Nolton Shelvin finished second in the men's 200 in a time of 20.54.
Ackelia Smith jumped a wind-aided mark of 7.10 meters/23-3.5 in the long jump to win the event. In the men's long jump, Solomon Washington finished second with a wind-aided mark of 8.02 meters/26-3.75.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Chris Brinkley crossed the line first as he tied his personal best of 50.63. His teammate Kody Blackwood finished third in a season-best time of 51.30. Cole Lindhorst ran a personal-best time of 3:41.88 in winning the 1,500-meter run.
The Longhorns swept the top three spots in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Allyson Little took the top spot in 10:50.65, while Virginia Knight (11:01.91) finished second and Brighton Mooney (11:10.86) took third. In the men's steeplechase, Logan Patete ran away from the competition with a 36-second victory in 9:13.82.
Jeremiah Nubbe set a personal best in winning the discus throw with a heave of 59.42 meters/194-11. Sophia Kowalski placed second in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 4.15 meters/13-7.25. Chrystal Herpin finished second in the discuss with a throw of 55.55 meters/182-3.
The Longhorns continue the Texas Invitational tomorrow with field events starting at 9 a.m. CT.
