Women's Swimming's Kelly Pash places fifth in 100 fly final at U.S. Olympic Trials

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Former University of Texas star Kelly Pash registered a fifth-place finish and rising senior Emma Sticklen finished eighth on Sunday evening in the final of the 100-meter butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming inside Lucas Oil Stadium. In addition, rising junior Lydia Jacoby qualified for the final of the 100-meter breaststroke and rising sophomore Erin Gemmell advanced to the final of the 200-meter freestyle.

The top finisher in the individual swimming events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earns an automatic spot on the official Team USA roster, while the runner-up is considered a near lock to make the team as well.

Gretchen Walsh (55.31) and Torri Huske (55.52) claimed the top two spots in the 100 fly final, while Pash finished fifth in a time of 57.72 and Sticklen placed eighth at 58.44.

During Sunday evening's 100-meter breaststroke semifinals, Jacoby recorded the fourth-fastest time with a mark of 1:06.66 to advance to Monday night's final. Graduate transfer Abby Arens finished in 11th in a time of 1:08.41, and incoming freshman Piper Enge placed 14th (1:08.59). Gemmell posted the fourth-fastest time in the 200-meter freestyle semifinals with a mark of 1:56.53 to qualify for Monday night's final.

In Sunday morning's prelims, a trio of Longhorns advanced to the 100-meter breaststroke semifinals. Jacoby recorded the fourth-fastest time in a mark of 1:07.25, while Enge was 13th (1:08.50) and Arens finished 14th (1:08.67). Gemmell posted the fifth-fastest time in the 200-meter freestyle with a mark of 1:57.48.
