Texas’ 10 combined selections on offense and defense are third-most in SEC.
AUSTIN, Texas – In a poll of media covering the SEC Media Days this week, Texas earned 13 spots on the Preseason All-SEC Football Team, the conference announced Friday. In addition, Texas was picked to finish second in the league according to that preseason poll.
The Longhorns had 10 players selected on the three-teams picked on offense and defense, that was third-most in the conference (Georgia, 13; Alabama, 13). The 13 total picks were also third-best (Alabama, 16; Georgia, 15).
Highlighted by left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr.'s preseason first-team selection on offense, quarterback Quinn Ewers, running back CJ Baxter and wide receiver Isaiah Bond each garnered preseason second-team All-SEC accolades. Center Jake Majors was selected to the third-team as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. was joined by defensive backs Jahdae Barron, Andrew Mukuba and Malik Muhammad on the second-team. Additionally, defensive lineman Trey Moore picked up third-team recognition.
Place kicker Bert Auburn was named to the first-team while kickoff specialist Will Stone was placed on the second-team. Versatile running back and return specialist Jaydon Blue received third-team all-purpose accolades.
As a team, the Longhorns were picked to finish second in the team standings, bracketed between preseason favorite Georgia and third-place pick Alabama. Only nine times since 1992 (32 years) has the predicted champion prior to the season at SEC Media Days proceeded to win the SEC Championship Game.
