Football ranked No. 4 in Associated Press preseason poll

The Longhorns earned their highest preseason ranking in the Associated Press poll since 2009, checking in at No. 4.
AUSTIN, Texas –The Texas Football program, under fourth-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, earned its highest preseason ranking in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 since 2009 after checking in at No. 4, the AP released Monday.
It is the seventh time in the last eight seasons in which Texas has been ranked in the preseason AP Top 25. It marks Texas' first preseason AP Top 10 ranking since 2019, when UT clocked in at No. 10.
Texas' 2024 schedule features seven home games and nine contests that will take place in the State of Texas, with the Arkansas, Michigan and Vanderbilt games being the lone ones outside of the state. The Longhorns' opponents combined for an overall record of 85-69 (.549) in 2023. Six of the opponents went to bowls, including two who played in New Year's Six bowls – defending National Champion Michigan and Georgia (Orange Bowl). UTSA (Frisco Bowl), Oklahoma (Alamo Bowl), Kentucky (Gator Bowl) and Texas A&M (Texas Bowl) also appeared in bowl games.
Four of Texas' 2024 opponents are ranked inside the AP's preseason Top 25, including No. 1 Georgia, No. 9 Michigan, No. 16 Oklahoma and No. 20 Texas A&M. UTSA (six votes) and Kentucky (two votes) each received votes.
The Longhorns kick off the season at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday, Aug. 31, at home against Colorado State. The game will air on ESPN from inside Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
