AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Football program, under fourth-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, earned its highest preseason ranking since 2009 after checking in at No. 4 in the preseason Coaches Poll, released by USA Today on Monday.
It marks the eighth-straight season in which the Longhorns have been ranked in the preseason Coaches Poll and the 11th time in the last 14 seasons. It's the 35th time UT has clocked in with a preseason top-five ranking.
Texas' 2024 schedule features seven home games and nine contests that will take place in the State of Texas, with the Arkansas, Michigan and Vanderbilt games being the lone ones outside of the state. The Longhorns' opponents combined for an overall record of 85-69 (.549) in 2023. Six of the opponents went to bowls, including two who played in New Year's Six bowls – defending National Champion Michigan and Georgia (Orange Bowl). UTSA (Frisco Bowl), Oklahoma (Alamo Bowl), Kentucky (Gator Bowl) and Texas A&M (Texas Bowl) also appeared in bowl games.
The Longhorns kick off the season at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 31, at home against Colorado State. The game will air on ESPN from inside Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
