Tanya Tucker will headline Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey Co. on September 21
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Texas Athletics is proud to announce Tanya Tucker will headline Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey Co. on Saturday, September 21. One of country music's most iconic artists of all time, Tucker will perform her timeless hits prior to the Texas Football vs. ULM game. Located on the LBJ Lawn, admission is FREE for Longhorn City Limits concerts all season long. Joining Tanya Tucker on the lineup will be Kathryn Legendre.
Outlaws. Movie stars. Washed out rodeo cowboys. Songwriters. Fashion designers. Guitar pickers. Real people. Late-night denizens. Super Bowl halftime shows. Studio 54. Honky Tonks. Sedona. The Opry. Austin. Music City. Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. #1 records in every decade but one since the 1970's.
Only Tanya Tucker can claim a resume like that: one long on living, not judging, creating, not looking back. When 2019's acclaimed While I'm Livin' won the GRAMMY for Best Country Album, and tis poignant single "Bring My Flowers Now," not only won Best Country Song but was also nominated in the all-genre Song of the Year category, it was a powerful statement about authenticity, about staying power and about greatness. But that doesn't always make the follow-up any easier.
Tanya Tucker has seen, done and been places most people can't imagine and she's done it at a pace that would kill mere mortals. A child thrust into stardom with a series of precocious hits, the iconic "Delta Dawn," "Would You Lay With Me," and "Blood Red and Goin' Down," among them, she then released a pair of wild and brash rock records at 18, then returned to country music in her 20s to ultimately take the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 1991. Along the way, she's been a cutting horse champion, played dives, arenas, stadium, and the Houston Rodeo, created headlines, and wrung out the absolute last drop out of every moment.
And that approach to living is what makes her new album, Sweet Western Sound (Fantasy) such a tour de force. Building on her collaboration with Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings, they dug deeper into the caverns and canyons of Tanya's life. This time the music is bigger and more immediate, the reckonings more profound; but as always, the heart is strong, honest, and willing to tell the truth about it all.
In 2023, Tanya Tucker was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, a testament to her enduring impact on the genre. This prestigious honor adds to her already impressive list of accolades, which includes multiple Grammy Awards, CMA Awards, and a legacy of hits that have defined the country music landscape.
Kathryn Legendre will kick off a historic night of live music on September 21. Legendre, a native Texan, has become a fixture of the Austin music scene, playing her own brand of original honky tonk. Folks will tell you that she's never been one to follow trends – that encompasses Legendre's whole outlook on songwriting and, well, life.
Along the way, she's built a catalog consisting of her 2013 debut album Old Soul, 2016 EP Don't Give A Damn, 2019 EP Making It Up, 2020 singles, "One Long Sad Song" & "Waiting In Line," and 2023 single, "Cigarettes." As a result, Legendre has earned 2020 & 2023 Honky Tonk Female Ameripolitan nominations, as well as a 2021 Austin Music Awards Best Country Artist nomination.
"It's so exciting welcoming country royalty Tanya Tucker to the Forty Acres and Longhorn City Limits," said Chris Del Conte, Vice President and Folger Family Athletics Director. "Longhorn Nation can look forward to a memorable night on the LBJ Lawn celebrating her incredible legacy before another fantastic Texas Football gameday."
Kathryn Legendre will hit the stage at 3:30 p.m., followed by Tanya Tucker at 5 p.m.
