Men’s Tennis advances two to second round of ITA All-Americans main draw

Juniors Sebastian Gorzny and Jonah Braswell won their first-round matches on Wednesday in Tulsa.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis juniors Sebastian Gorzny and Jonah Braswell advanced to the second round of the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa on Wednesday.
Gorzny earned a top-15 win with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over 9-16 seed No. 14 Thomas Paulsell of Georgia. Paulsell took a 2-0 lead in the first set, but Gorzny responded with a 7-0 run take the set and establish a 1-0 lead in the second, which he did with a deuce-point break. The first three games of that set were all breaks until Gozny held for a 3-1 lead. Paulsell got the break back for 5-5, but Gorzny swept the last two games from there for the 7-5 win. Gorzney will next take on No. 49 Zsombor Velcz of Baylor at 11 a.m. CT.
Braswell's win came over No. 27 Pablo Alemany of Memphis, 4-6, 1-0, ret. Alemany had won the first set, but Braswell taken an early lead in the second when Alemany was forced to retire with an injury. Next up for Braswell will be Matthew Forbes of Michigan State at 12:30 p.m. CT.
In the other main draw match, senior No. 46 Pierre-Yves Bailly fell to No. 43 Martin Katz of Miami, 6-0, 6-2. Bailly will now move into the consolation round where he will face 7 seed #7 Gavin Young of Michigan at 11:30 a.m. CT.
In doubles, Bailly and Braswell are slated to play No. 43 Sebastian Dominko and Peter Nad of Notre Dame in the qualifying consolation draw at a time to be determined later.
