Men’s Tennis advances two to ITA All-Americans singles Round of 16

Juniors Sebastian Gorzny and Jonah Braswell picked up wins on Thursday and will both square off against top-five opponents on Friday.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis juniors Sebastian Gorzny and Jonah Braswell advanced to the Round of 16 of the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa on Thursday.
Gorzny secured a top-50 win by downing No. 49 Zsombor Velcz (BAY), 6-4, 6-3. Gorzny earned the first break, doing so on a deuce point for a 2-1 lead that he consolidated to 3-1. Velcz got the break back on a deuce point to even it, 3-3, but Gorzny answered the break and held for 5-3. Gorzny would then have three set points in the following game, and although Velcz managed a comeback to hold, Gorzny served out the set in the next game.
In the second set, Gorzny again broke first for a 2-1 lead. That would be the first of three-straight breaks that left Gorzny up, 3-2. He then held for a 4-2 lead, and the next two games were on serve until Gorzy picked up a final break on a deuce point for the 6-3 win. Gorzny will next face 5 seed No. 5 Colton Smith of Arizona at 9 a.m. CT on Friday.
Braswell later joined Gorzny in Round of 16 with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Matthew Forbes of Michigan State. After Forbes took the opening set, Braswell responded with a 3-0 run to start the second, which stayed on serve until Braswell broke again to win the set. In the third, Braswell once again pushed out to a 3-0 lead on his way to a 6-4 victory. He will take on 3 seed No. 3 Oliver Torvet of San Diego at 9 a.m. CT on Friday.
Additionally in the consolation draw, senior No. 46 Pierre-Yves Bailly fell to 7 seed No. 7 Gavin Young of Michigan, 6-2, 6-3.
