No. 1/2 Football’s Majors named to watch list for Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year

The senior center was named to the watch list for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, which is presented annually to a student-athlete who exemplifies leadership both on and off the field.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas senior center Jake Majors was selected to the watch list for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, Icon Sports and Entertainment announced Thursday. The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field.
Former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was named the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year in 2021.
Majors, a four-year starter with 45 career starts to his name, completed his Bachelor's in Business Management with a 3.64 cumulative GPA in May 2023. He was named the Outland Trophy's National Player of the Week on Sept. 9 following Texas' 31-12 road win at No. 10/9 Michigan. Majors also earned SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week honors following UT's win at Michigan and was selected as a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy earlier this week, which is presented annually to college football's premier scholar-athlete. Prior to the 2024 season, Majors was tabbed to the Rimington Trophy watch list, which is awarded annually to the nation's top center in college football. This season, Majors has been the center of an offense that ranks 11th in the nation in scoring offense (47.5 ppg) and 12th in total offense (511.3 ypg). The unit also ranks 10th in passing offense (321.5 ypg) and is in the top 20 in third-down conversions at 14th (52.0 percent), sacks allowed at 17th (.75 spg) and red zone offense at 18th (95.7 percent).
The Propser, Texas, native was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. He's a seven-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned a spot on the 2020-21 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. Majors has made the 15th-most starts (45) in Texas football program history and the seventh amongst Longhorn offensive linemen in program history.
Majors has been a member of the Texas's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years and is an active member of the Silver Spurs, which is an honorary service organization that seeks to provide a transformative learning experience that empowers students to become agents of positive change in their communities. The group also is responsible for transporting and handling BEVO – Texas' official mascot. He has been an active member of community service with both organizations and with the team. He has volunteered as a dry foods packer at Hungry Souls, which is a non-profit that partners with schools to provide weekend and school break meals for students and their families; at Mobile Loaves & Fishes, which is a social outreach ministry to help the homeless; at Pop-Up Birthday, a non-profit that throws birthday parties for foster children; at Side by Side Kids, a non-profit faith-based after school program that helps the economically disadvantaged in Austin; at Dell Children's Medical Center, spending time with patients; at Camp in Motion as part of Dell Children's Foundation; at the Salvation Army participating in outdoor activities with children; at Rise School Austin for early education doing maintenance; at the Arc of the Capital that assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and has spoken at elementary schools.

Twenty semifinalists will be announced on Oct. 22. Three finalists will be named for the award on Monday, Dec. 16. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 12, 2025.
Majors and the Longhorns take on Mississippi State at 3:15 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 28, inside Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will air on SEC Network with Tom Hart (play-by-play), Cole Cubelic (analyst) and Alyssa Lang (sideline) on the call.
