Rori Harmon records 600th career assist, becomes second player in program history with 1,000 points/600 assists
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior Rori Harmon reached 600 career assists to become the second player in program history with 1,000+ points and 600+ assists as the No. 5/6 Texas Longhorns (15-1, 2-0) achieved their second SEC win with their SEC home opener against the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-10, 0-2), 90-56.
Senior Aaliyah Moore recorded her first double-double of the season and eighth of her career with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Kyla Oldacre recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, her second of the season. Four other Longhorns followed behind the two with double digits with Justice Carlton (15), Jordan Lee (13), Bryanna Preston (11), and Harmon (12).
Moore put Texas on the board to send Texas on a 6-0 run, forcing five Arkansas turnovers in just under three minutes. With eight points from Carlton and eight rebounds from Moore, the Longhorns finished the opening quarter ahead of the Razorbacks, 20-13.
Lee made back-to-back 3-pointers with assists from Harmon and Moore to send the Longhorns on a 9-0 run. Holding the Razorbacks to a five-minute shooting drought, the Longhorns finished the half with a 40-25 lead.
The Longhorns opened the second half with five points from Holle to maintain their lead. Moore continued to post nine points for the Longhorns. Texas closed the third quarter with a 7-0 run with a score of 68-49.
A three-pointer from Carlton and an assist from Harmon allowed the Texas momentum to continue going into the final quarter. Junior Guard Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda came off the bench to end a Longhorn scoring drought and assist Lee with her fourth 3-pointer of the game. The Longhorns finished the game on a 9-0 run and a final score of 90-56.
Up next the Longhorns will host No. 19 Alabama at Moody Center on Thursday, Jan. 9 with a 7:00 p.m. tip of SECN+.
