The 44-point win is Texas' largest margin of victory against an AP Top 25 team in at least 25 years.
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior Rori Harmon moved into second on the Texas career assist list and Madison Booker scored 21 points in 18 minutes as the No. 5/6 Texas women's basketball team took down No. 18/19 Alabama 84-40 on Thursday at Moody Center.
Harmon tallied six assists to move her total to 608. Harmon passed Terri Mackey and is now second on the Longhorns all-time list.
The win for Texas is their largest margin of victory against an AP Top 25 team in at least 25 years. Texas beat No. 25 Old Dominion, 78-44 on Nov. 17, 2008.
Senior Forward Taylor Jones recorded her fifth double-double of the season and 23rd of her career with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Forward Madison Booker led the Longhorns in scoring with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, the highest on the court. Senior Guard Rori Harmon followed behind with 10 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
Twelve Longhorns appeared on the court with 28 points coming from the bench. Texas grabbed 45 rebounds and dominated the paint, 34-18, over the Crimson Tide. The Longhorns forced 20 turnovers to add an additional 33 points to the board.
With a steal and a bucket from senior forward Aaliyah Moore, the Longhorns opened the game with a 14-0 run. Texas continued to shoot 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the field in the opening quarter to position themselves with a 29-7 lead above Alabama.
Texas opened the second quarter forcing a 2:18 Alabama scoring drought. With an assist from Harmon, freshman guard Jordan Lee secured a fast break field goal to solidify a 41-16 lead at the end of the half.
Holding Alabama to a near seven-minute scoring drought, the Longhorns opened the second half with a 21-1 run. Texas held Alabama to nine points in the third quarter to finish with a 67-25 lead.
Lee opened the closing quarter with a 3-pointer assisted by junior guard Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda. Two field goals from Jones extended the Longhorn's lead half-way through the fourth quarter. Texas solidified the 44-point win with a field goal from freshman forward Justice Carlton.
Up next, the Longhorns travel to Columbia, South Carolina to face No. 2/2 South Carolina on January 12 at 12:00 PM CT. The game will be televised on ESPN.
