Defender recognized for impact off the pitch
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas senior Breana Thompson earned a spot on the 2025 SEC Soccer Community Service Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
This marks the 21st year for the SEC Community Service Team for soccer. All 23 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004.
Since arriving on the Forty Acres, Thompson has made an impact on and off the pitch, leading countless service endeavors throughout her surrounding community.
For the past two years, the Mesquite, Texas, native has volunteered with Special Olympics in celebration of National Student-Athlete Day in April.
Thompson has also been selected for numerous prestigious travel opportunities, including a service trip in Costa Rica with the organization Courts for Kids to build a cement playing surface for a rural community. In a separate opportunity, the defender was picked to visit Portugal, as part of a Global Sports & Events trip, where Thompson guided a sports clinic for a local school and helped clean an organic farm. She also traveled to both Washington, D.C. and New York City for a pair of career and cultural travel engagements.
On campus and in Austin, the psychology major participated in a voter registration education session led by Rise to Vote and has read books to local children as part of the Neighborhood Longhorns Program.
Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Thompson was nominated for the inaugural Allstate and NACDA Good Works Team for her contributions to homeless rehabilitation and advocacy.
