Taylor arrives on The Forty Acres after helping Texas A&M reach double-digit wins for the first time in three years
AUSTIN, Texas — Seth Taylor has been named an assistant coach for Texas Soccer, head coach Margueritte Bates announced Tuesday.
Taylor comes to The Forty Acres after spending the past three seasons at Texas A&M, where he helped the Aggies return to SEC prominence. In Taylor's debut campaign on staff, Texas A&M mounted double-digit wins for the first time in three years, advancing to the SEC Tournament semifinal round and NCAA Championship second round.
"We are overjoyed to welcome Seth to The Forty Acres," Bates said. "He has forged his career thus far with enthusiasm and a willingness to go above and beyond for the program. He is innovative, genuine and a master recruiter. He truly believes in our vision for the program, and I know he will do everything in his power to help us succeed."
While with the Aggies, Taylor mentored a youthful group of student-athletes to eight conference honors, highlighted by two-time selection Carolyn Calzada.
"I'm incredibly grateful and blessed for the opportunity to be a part of Margueritte's coaching staff at The University of Texas," Taylor said. "Her championship mentality sets the standard for excellence and it's inspiring to work for a leader who intentionally pours into the lives of the players she coaches. Texas Soccer has unlimited potential and I'm excited to help push the program to new heights."
Prior to Texas A&M, Taylor served two stints at California Baptist University. Throughout his time with the Lancers, Taylor recruited and coached 50 All-Conference players, 21 All-Region selections, 11 All-Americans, and three Conference Players of the Year.
Throughout his more recent tenure at CBU from 2015-23, the Lancers posted a 69-44-21 (.593) mark, while moving from Division II to Division I prior to the 2019 season.
CBU won the 2017 PacWest Championship and competed in the NCAA Tournament before setting back-to-back record-setting campaign.
In 2014, Taylor joined the staff at Toledo for a season. The Rockets went toe-to-toe with multiple Power Five Conference foes, collecting victories over Ohio State and Xavier. He worked as the interim head coach in spring 2015, guiding the Rockies to a 5-0 ledger in exhibition play and tutored Colombian National Team player Isabella Echeverri, who competed in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
During Taylor's initial stint with the Lancers from 2011-13, CBU claimed two PacWest Conference titles and NCCAA National Championships. The Lancers rolled to a 48-9-3 (.825) mark across that stretch, including identical 18-2-1 records in back-to-back title-winning campaigns.
Taylor began his collegiate coaching career with a two-year run as an assistant at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. With Taylor on staff, the Panthers posted a 23-7-6 (.722) ledger. The 2009 squad made an appearance in the NAIA Top 25 and the 2010 club went 11-4-3 in its first season as an NCAA Division II member.
He also boasts MLS experience, working as a scout for Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
A 2008 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Taylor was a four-year starter and garnered a pair of All-America Mideast Conference honors and NCCAA Academic All-American accolades. He helped MVNU to a third-place finish at the 2007 NCCAA National Tournament.
Taylor graduated with a bachelor's degree in middle childhood education and then earned a master's degree in education in May 2011 from Ohio Dominican.
He married his wife, Bryna, on July 23, 2016.
