AUSTIN, Texas – No. 14/14/13 Texas Football will head to the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl to face No. 18/17/18 Michigan at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The game will broadcast on ABC. Texas will be making its first appearance at the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) has won six of its last seven games, including a 27-17 win over No. 3/3/3 Texas A&M in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown on Nov. 28 to close out the regular season. Texas became the first team with three AP Top 10 victories in a regular season since the 2019 LSU Tigers. The Longhorns, along with Georgia and Texas Tech, are the only teams in the nation with three wins over opponents currently ranked in the CFP Top 15. Texas' two wins over teams currently ranked in the CFP Top 10 are the second-most in the nation. Over the last 10 years, only 12 teams matched the gauntlet of playing five Top 15 opponents in the final AP regular season poll that Texas faced in 2025. The Longhorns are the only team among those 12 to win three. Only three others faced four in a season since 2016 – Georgia (2024), Michigan (2016) and Ohio State (2016), each winning three.
Texas is 2-0 all-time against Michigan with the two teams clashing for the second-consecutive year. During Week 2 of the 2024 season, the Longhorns defeated No. 10/9, 31-12, at Michigan Stadium. The Horns and Wolverines first met at the 2005 Rose Bowl with Texas claiming a 38-37 victory. Michigan concluded the 2025 regular season 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines finished their regular season winning five of their last six games.
The Longhorns will be making their 62nd all-time bowl appearance and sport a 32-27-2 all-time record in those matchups. Texas' 62 bowl games are the third-most in the country behind Alabama (79) and Georgia (63).
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has led his programs to postseason appearances in nine of his 12 seasons as a head coach, including a current streak of four-straight postseason appearances while at Texas. Sarkisian guided the Longhorns to back-to-back CFP Playoff Semifinal appearances in 2023 and 2024 – the only program to advance to the CFP Semifinals in both of those years. In 2022, the Longhorns finished 8-5 with an Alamo Bowl appearance. He led Washington to four-straight bowl games following the 2010-13 seasons and guided USC to the Holiday Bowl in 2014. Sarkisian is 2-2 as a head coach in bowl games. His Washington team played in the 2013 Fight Hunger Bowl, a game he did not coach in after taking over the Trojans' program. Sarkisian was the head coach for the Huskies' Alamo Bowl appearance against Baylor in 2011.
