Soccer's McDonald, Villarreal to participate in U.S. U-19 Women’s National Team Camp

The Longhorn duo are two of 18 active collegiate players to make the roster.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore forward Amalia Villarreal and mid-year freshman enrollee Ava McDonald have both been called in to take part in the U.S. Soccer Under-19 Women's National Team (US19WNT) February Camp, U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday afternoon.
McDonald and Villarreal are two of the six forwards that help make up the 20-member roster that will begin training in Spain on Saturday, Feb. 15. Throughout the 11-day camp that spans from Feb. 15 to Thursday, Feb. 27, U.S. Soccer will also take part in matches against the Netherlands, England and Spain at the L'Albir U-19 Women's International Tournament.
Each team will play each other once with three points for a win and one point for a loss. The USA will open its three-game set against the Netherlanders on Thursday, Feb. 20, before taking on England on Sunday, Feb. 23 and wrapping up against Spain on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
McDonald and Villarreal both represented the US19WNT at the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile, where the squad earned a bronze medal. The duo combined to scored seven goals (Villarreal – four, McDonald – three) throughout the tournament.
As a freshman for the Longhorns during the 2024 collegiate season, Villarreal was named the SEC's Freshman of the Year after scoring nine goals and being credited with eight assists during 23 matches on the pitch. McDonald arrives on the Forty Acres as a mid-year freshman enrollee after being ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect, according to Top Drawer Soccer, in the Class of 2025.
