Longhorns hold Wildcats 29 points below their season scoring average and notch fifth win of the season over a top-10 team.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Texas post players Kyla Oldacre and Taylor Jones combined for 34 points as the Texas women's basketball team took down No. 8/13 Kentucky 67-49 on the road Thursday night.
Madison Booker and Kyla Oldacre led the Longhorns with 19 points each and Taylor Jones contributed 15 points.
Kyla Oldacre scored seven of her 13 first half points in the opening quarter and the Longhorns jumped out to a 16-14 lead.
Kentucky scored back-to-back baskets to open the second quarter and take a 18-16 lead. Oldacre has a stretch of six straight Texas points. Booker and Preston each scored consecutive baskets for the Longhorns.
Booker scored the last six points of the half for Texas, including a corner jumper with five seconds left in the half to give the Longhorns a 33-25 lead at the break. Jordan Lee drew a charge on Kentucky with 52 seconds left in the half to give Texas momentum.
After a Kentucky bucket to open the third quarter, the Longhorns used a 6-0 run to go up 39-27 on a Booker jumper. Shay Holle knocked down a 3-pointer to put Texas up 44-30 just before the media timeout of the third quarter.
The Longhorns used an 11-0 run and held Kentucky scoreless for five minutes and 44 seconds of game time in the third quarter. Texas outscored Kentucky 24-10 in the third period. Jones and Oldacre scored 16 of the Longhorns 24 points in the period.
Kentucky scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter, but the Longhorns regrouped and went on a 6-0 run to take a 63-45 lead on a Booker jumper. Texas would score 10 straight to answer the Wildcat run and hold Kentucky to 14 points for the fourth quarter.

• The Texas defense held Kentucky to 34.7 percent shooting from the field and 3-of-15 from 3-point range. Texas improved to 15-0 on the season when holding an opponent to under 40 percent shooting from the field.
• Kentucky came into the game averaging 78 points per game and the Longhorns held them to 49 points. It marked the ninth time this season Texas has held an opponent under 50 points.
