No. 2 Women’s Swim and Dive dominates 200 medley relay, shatters school record in 800 freestyle relay at SEC Championships

The Longhorns won their first-ever SEC title in the 200 medley relay while also finishing runner-up in the 800 free relay on day two of the 2025 SEC Championships.
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 2 Texas Women's Swim and Dive Team recorded two podium finishes Tuesday night at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, highlighted by a conference title in the 200 medley relay. The Horns also set a new school record in the 800 freestyle relay in their runner-up finish.
The Horns are in the lead through five events at the SEC Championships after compiling 238 total points. Florida (2nd-140), Texas A&M (3rd-130), LSU (4th-126), Tennessee (5th-120), South Carolina (6th-118), Auburn (7th-115.5), Kentucky (8th-115), Georgia (9th-104.5), Alabama (10th-86), Arkansas (11th-85), Missouri (12th-84) and Vanderbilt (13th-56).
Texas commenced the evening in electric fashion, winning the 200 medley relay (Emma Sticklen, Piper Enge, Abigail Arens and Grace Cooper) with an SEC Championships record time of 1:33.84. It also doubled as the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season and broke the previous SEC Championships record which was set in 2022 by Alabama (1:33.94). The Longhorns beat out runner-up Tennessee (1:34.27) and third-place Florida (1:34.34) to claim their first-ever SEC title.

The Longhorns continued to make history and set a new school record in the 800 free relay (Erin Gemmell, Lillie Nesty, Campbell Chase and Ava Longi), clocking in at 6:51.61 and finishing runner-up. Texas placed second behind Tennessee (6:49.83) and in front of third-place Florida (6:53.53). Nesty, a freshman, recorded a monster split on the second leg of the race at 1:41.70, the second-fastest split in the field behind Tennessee's Camille Spink (1:41.28). UT demolished the previous school record of 6:53.42, which was set in 2018 by Quinn Carrozza, Claire Adams, Evie Pfeifer and Rebecca Millard.
